[/u][/size][/right][/blockquote][/blockquote]To Be Your Own Best Friend...APPERANCE: Max stands at about five foot seven, not very tall for someone of his age. Then again, he is much more thin than he is tall because of all of the playing he did as a small child outdoors with his parent's Pokemon, as well as hanging around Professor Elm's lab for nearly a year or more. He has pretty much spiky brown hair, along with brown eyes to match such a thing. His dad always tells him that he got those from his mother. Peh, as if he wishes to believe most of that! Well, even if it's actually true, really. His skin his a light tanned color all over his seeable body, possibly from all of the traveling he's done while trying to get all eight badges from Johto, as well as the traveling he is doing now. Who could blame him, right?
Over his spiky brown hair, he wears a red cap with certain white markings, that mostly custom to Johto trainers, more or less. He wears a red vest-like jacket with a white line down the zipper and the Johto symbol on one side, the inside of it that's showing it seen as black. The t-shirt that's as well under neath it is black, too, with black wristbands to match. He sometimes wear fingerless black and red gloves, though that's completely rare. On his back, a back pack none the less, with yellow, red, and black colorings. It looks overly large due to items that are packed inside. He also wears blue jeans that are usually always covered in dirt and mud, and a few holes, due to him wearing them so long. His shoes can range from your basic tennis shoes with red and white markings to boot used for hiking. And of course, none the less, he always wears Poke'Balls around his waist for his Pokemon.
PERSONALITY: Max is what you would call the friendly type; he likes making friends with just about everyone, although it depends on what both he and his Pokemon think about them. Though he normally goes with his Pokemon's reactions towards them, if more or less Flame's or one of his trusted if needed. He is very kind hearted, and is usually very willing to help others if they need it. He doesn't like leaving others behind in the dust, even if they work for the bad side. Or Team Rocket, preferably as it may be or have been. He isn't up tight about other's either; if your willing to travel with him when he's bored or if your going to the same place, then he'll cal you his friend weather you may like it or not like it.
Max is usually cool-headed, even in the most heated of battles. He has been in the Pokemon business - he likes to call it that, for some odd reason - for almost two or more years now, and has learned even more from his parents, since either have their own Pokemon and taught things about them to him as a young child, his father always taking him to the Gym so his son could watch him battle against other trainers. He usually has strategies in his mind, even though he knows that some may not nessicarily work on some opponents that he goes against. Sure, some may not work, but hey, it's worth a shot. He is also not a sore loser. Sure, he gets sometimes overly excited when he wins - like at the Johto Cup - though tries not to act so.
One thing that he absolutely hates is Pokemon abuse. He grew up with Pokemon, even though for a small portion of it he did not enjoy the company of many Pokemon but the ones he knew. So for him, it's only natural when it comes to the fact that he always wants to protect innocent Pokemon. He has a heart, which makes him act this way. And why usually Pokemon trust him more often than less. Not all of the time, but usually. Sure, there are some bad Pokemon out there, or Pokemon of whom just don't like Pokemon all together, and Max can truly see that. Though, more or less, that doesn't let him try from helping both Pokemon and humans alike. Just something that might be in his blood, so to guess.

....On The Outside Looking In
[/u][/size][/right][/blockquote][/blockquote]Leave Out All The Rest...HISTORY: Maxwell Smith was born in a hospital at two fifty six in the morning of a Sunday, to two loving parents like any other child would have been that was expected. But a few things that were defiantly unexpected about him that he was born to a Gym Leader from Johto, and a Co-Ordinator born in Hoenn who moved to Johto just after her final contests there, wanting more feel more about contests such as when she was a child, his father still a trainer working his way up on the ranks. His parents were sweethearts when they first met, and after four years of knowing each other, they married, Maxwell Smith becoming the result almost two years prior to such, coming home in a little bundle to the almost unknown town of Sunnydale to Pokemon and human family members alike.
Many people thought he would be great with Pokemon when he was older, for the moments when he started walking and talking, he was always around parent's and others he was allowed to be around that were nicer than others. Let's face it, he adored them. His first words were practically about Pokemon, weather they be the species, moves, nick name, or just a command used in battle from the times where his mother brought him to watch his father battling trainers for his badge at only a few months old, cheering for his father the best he could. While he grew up to a stubby toddler, he was usually always being watched outdoors near his home by one to all of his parent's Pokemon, playing as a young child should.
He had grown found of one of his mother's and father's Pokemon each; a Persian named Gem that was his mother's main competitor during Co-Ordinator contests, and his father's Mightyena, nicknamed Might by Max him self when he could yet talk too well due to his not too fully developed voice back and no teeth. He seemed to have a good - no, great - life as a youngster, always being able to around people - mostly trainers, old friends of his father, usually - and Pokemon a like. He didn't take for granted much of his life, for as a child he forgot about such while his young mind was developing on other things, mainly playing around with Pokemon while his parents were unable to keep their eyes on him. Though, his little happiness rein would end quickly at the age of four.
His father was invited along with a few other Gym Leaders and Trainers to observe life of Pokemon herds, packs, and the such by Pokemon Researchers. Max's father was invited due to his know-how about Mightyena and most of their behavior, since he has his own since he was a child and the dark type was his very first Pokemon. Mr. Smith thought that this would be a good experience for his son, so he brought him along. The group was watching over and studying a herd of Tauros that day, all very mild and calm around the humans. They even let little Max play around their legs with Might, though gave calls or moved away to find a different grazing spot if the two got too close. Max was near the middle of the herd, Might dodging around the large normal-types trying to catch up to the boy, when something starled the beasts into running.
No one knew if a few in the rear of the herd got startled by something and began the run, or if a wild pack or Mightyena or Houndoom had sought them out as their next meal, but something made them begin to run, crying as they tried to run for a safer place. Max, being right in the middle of it and four years old, pretty much all alone, freaked out, taking cover behind a large rock. Tauros of all sizes menuvered around the large rock, some willing enough to leap over it. Max him self didn't even hear his father calling for him, or see Might trying to dodge around on coming bull-like animals trying to get to the small boy. Once the herd had cleared our and both Might and his father was able to reach him, the poor boy was shivering, terrified for his life. After that, he simply hated other Pokemon that he did not know.
He wouldn't go around other Pokemon besides the ones his parents owned, even if he knew the Pokemon personally. He thought that all Pokemon were all out to get him, to say the very least. Some said that he could never be cured of this, that he would never become a Pokemon Trainer, that his parents should have just thought of another career for the boy in case something like this happened to him. His father refused to accept something like this, but deep in side, he knew that this was true. The small boy would never be the same way again, no matter how hard anybody tried to help him. He would have trauma because of such fears he started to have after the incedient, he seemed almost uncureable. Though, soon he would learn the basics of becoming a Pokemon Trainer, and about helping Pokemon.
It was one sunny day, at the age of eight, while he was almost slightly over the trauma that happened to him when he was merely four years old, that he decided to go out and play with Might in the forest. It was a weekend, where the Gym was closed and his mother was making dinner. Max wasn't planning to go far, and stay near the town, though, after about an hour of going through the twists and turns of the woodland around him self and the four legged Pokemon that was watching over him, he soon hear a faint cry. Might heard it as well, so the child knew that he was not truly alone. After a few moments of searching, and Might putting his nose to the ground, they stumbled upon a hollowed out tree, with a small creature inside in a nest-like den, crying for it's mother.
It was a Vulpix! Max was surprised as any, looking around wearily for it's mother - seeing as how it was all alone inside - as Might reached in to try and sniff it. After a few moments of waiting to see if anything jumped out at them, Max finally decided to take the young pup out of it's den and take it to the nearest town of New Bark. The Professor was surprised to see a Gym Leader's son appear at his house with a small Vulpix, even after a few of the stories about he had a fear of Pokemon. Max explained his story about the Vulpix to the man, and Elm was glad to examine it. After a phone call to his parents, that was, though he only told them that Max had lost his way while playing and had ended up in New Bark Town, having gone to the lab since he had heard about Elm in order to get his way home.
Within the while it took for Max's father to get to the lab - the man had waited about four hours to go off in order to let his son play a little bit around the lab since "it was okay" with Elm, though took more or less forty five minutes to actually get there - Elm had examined the small fire-type. Turned out that the Vulpix was roughly smaller than usual and weaker than should have been at it's age, almost deprived of walking any time soon as well as a small stomach virus, easily curable by human medicine. It's mother probably thought that it was not going to make it, so it's instincts told her to move on and keep going. So Elm, knowing a kid like Max, let him make the dession him self out of two options: after the Pokemon was healed, either Elm could keep the Pokemon and let it be raised by the other Pokemon that stayed in the overly large out side turn about that had many acres on it with many Pokemon that could teach it how to survive out in the wild so when it was ready, the Vulpix could leave and live in the wild, or Max could come help out at the lab, and when the Vulpix was ready, it could come home with him.
Max had openly said yes.
That night, while at dinner, Max thought up of ways to get his parents to say yes to having the Vulpix over to stay, much less telling him about what really happened that day. From a one sided luck day, his father had actually started up the conversation for him, saying that Elm had found an injured Vulpix while exploring, and had been taking care if it when the man had arrived to pick up his son. after a few moments of silence from Max, the child finally spoke up. Roughly, he had told his parents dimly wittingly what had happened, Might already having his head sunken slightly, as if he him self had done something wrong. At first, Max thought that he would get in trouble for what he had done. Before his father said that he thought that having a new Pokemon in the house would be a great idea. Max was overly surprised at the thought, though excited at the same time.
For the next week after, Max constantly went with his mother and father's Pokemon over to New Bark Town to visit the small Pokemon that Elm was taking care of. The Vulpix seemed to take a liking to the young boy, possibly because she was still so young. Max took a liking to the Pokemon as well, and it was possible to his parents and him self that he could be starting out with the Pokemon as his starter. It wasn't too long before the Vulpix got to go to her new home, and Max began working at Elm's lab, all the while learning about Pokemon as well. The boy took found to one of the starters there as well; a little mouse Pokemon by the name of Cyndaquil. Max defiantly seemed to have a growing attachment to fire-type Pokemon, that was for sure. As Max grew, so did the Vulpix, his father having been training it up about three months after getting it. It evolved not too long after Max's ninth birthday, Max having gotten a Fire Stone for his birthday. As for the Cyndaquil, it seemed to love stashing it self away when new trainers came to choose their starter, Elm resulting in just getting a new Cyndaquil every time a new trainer was coming.
Finally, after Max turned ten years old, Max started his journey as a Pokemon trainer, with an overly-protective, mother-like Ninetails and a curious and faithful Cyndaquil. Max started his journey unknowingly, though smart enough at that. His first Pokemon ever caught was a Larvitar; he found the small Pokemon while wondering through some woods, the little critter lost and alone. Elm thought that possibly it's mother had gotten either taken or killed by poachers because of how rare Tyranitar are in the wild. Since the Pokemon was young and knew no better, it took an instant liking to the boy, and Max has had the Pokemon ever since. It wasn't too long before Max was able to challenge the Violet City Gym Leader. He won by a practical land slide due to harsh training with his Pokemon.
The Azalea Town Gym was easy, none the less; though the Bug Types if the gym put up a great fight, Max won that easily with his two fire-type Pokemon that he owned. The Cyndaquil he owned also evolved into a Quilvila after that. Max was proud of that, though the Pokemon earned the nick name Flame because he liked to burst the flames on his back randomly, causing flames to spark on the ground around him. Any and all fires were put out before they caused any damage, luckily. Soon, and before Max knew it, his team was training once again in order to defeat the Goldenrod Gym, of which sounded like a toughie in it self, anyway. It was, truthfully. Max and team lost the first battle. After trying once more to defeat the female Gym Leader, Larvitar evolved while against the Leader's Milktank, and won easily for his trainer to say the least.
While on his way to the next Gym in the neighboring town, Max stopped at a Pokemon center, where he was informed of a rouge Duskull that had been abandon by it's trainer. Max felt compelled, and within minutes, he was facing off against the Ghost-Type Pokemon. It wasn't too long before their battle started before they were inturupted by Team Rocket; Max had mingled with the team once before after the first time of battling with the normal type gym leader back in Goldenrod. The Duskull had a mean attitude towards humans, so it was only natural that it thought that it was being ambushed and fled into hiding. It was only in the heat of the battle when the Duskull had came out of hiding that it felt almost confused about humans. When one of the grunts tried to launch a net towards the Ghost Type Max shielded the Pokemon, pushing it out of the way and getting tangled in the net it self. The Duskull actually got enraged by such act, and focused it's anger on the grunts instead.
Though the Duskull did help Max out in that, the Pokemon demanded that they keep the battle going. Though Max started out with his Pupitar, he finished with Ninetails. Though Max thought that the Ghost-type actually went easy during the last half just to get caught, Max won it easily. The Pokemon seemed a good alley in the battle against the Ecruteak City Gym Leader, of whom raised Ghost types as well. Max once again lost the first battle, though came back strong and won the badge after training hard with his Pokemon. The little Duskull had also earned a nick name due to it's attitude: Dusk. Max soon moved forward to Cianwood for his next Gym battle, but not soon before running into Team Rocket once more. It was a long and tough battle, but Max and a few other optical trainers that had joined in ended up the victors.
Cianwood was next. Max again trained up his Pokemon, Dusk learned Psychic and Frustration while Quilava learning Ariel Ace. It was a tough battle, none the less. But Max and team came out the victors. The next two gyms were fairly easy enough; steel and ice types were primarily weak against fire types. Pryce's Pokemon also helped Duskull evolve; the newly evolved Pokemon easily took out the man's Dewgong, though was taken out it self by his Piloswine. Flame had also evolved; during the steel-type battle, to say the least. Though his team was small, it wasn't as if he wasn't going to get more Pokemon, none the less. In fact, there were several Pokemon he still wanted to catch. Gotta catch 'em all, as the saying goes.
A year had already passed in Max's journey during this period of time, and Max him self was overly surprised at how time went by so quickly while trying to get all of his badges. The boy went on a momentary break since his parents wanted to celebrate his birthday, and was glad to show his parents the team he had built. Ninetails was glad to be home, and greeted Might and Star - Max's mother's Persian - happily and to show them how strong she was. Max's mother seemed to enjoy Dusk a lot, though the ghost type seemed to love causing mischief, and Pupitar got along great with Max's father. And, to Max's surprise, he had gotten a present from Elm him self. This was a surprised to Max greatly, though his parents seemed to already know about it.
The Professor had delivered a Poke'ball personally to the boy that night, before Max could leave on his journey without it. The man had said that he really couldn't take care of the Pokemon anymore, and seeing as how Max was a good enough trainer and that the Pokemon surely needed one, Max was given the Pokemon as a present. What came out surprised Max a lot: a Dragonite! The Pokemon gave a friendly call once out of it's ball, and looked around happily at the people and Pokemon around him. Max bonded with the Pokemon imediently afterwards, even though the Pokemon would primarily rather sleep and eat like a Snorlax rather than fight. Yeah, the Dragon type was compared to the Normal-type plenty of times before, as well as in the future.
Max quickly began his adventure to Blackthorn City, though not without a fight first. He ran once again into Team Rocket, though they seemed a lot stronger than before. And plus, Max was the only one battling them this time. It was an excruciating battle, this battle also being known for where Flame grows an overly hard attachment to his trainer, and from this point on doesn't like anyone or anything near his trainer unless he trusts them Which is pretty rare really. This battle also condemned where Dusk actually took a liking to it's trainer; though before the Ghost would rarely listen to it's trainer unless needed and also never really liked him, Max took a hit for the Pokemon as an Ice beam came raging towards him without warning[Max had all of his Pokemon out at this time]. Getting angered, the Ghost-type lurched forward in a Dark Punch, only to begin evolving during the middle of the process.
The Grunts had scattered after Dragonite used it's known Rage attack, practically blowing up the place. Max only sustained minimal injuries, though was out for a week due to them. After such, Max was once again overly confident and challenged the Blackthorn City Gym. It was a tough battle, Pupitar evolving in the process, though Max and team won, and possibly grew stronger as bonds could get. Max was finally qualified for the Johto Region Finals for all trainers, though they were a few months away. So, with that in mind, Max traveled around a bit, mostly to near regions that Dragon could get to with his Extreme Speed. During this time, he found a few Pokemon. The first was a Chimchar, being chased by a wild pack of Mightyena. Elm said that there was a group of wild Infernapes and it's lower stages living on the near by mountain range, though they were heard to be nomads.
Max though that probably the young Pokemon - who seemed only to be a baby at that - wondered a little too far from it's homeland, and possibly looked like the next meal for the wild pack. Flame and Ninetails scared off the pack with a large double Eruption attack. The small Pokemon took a liking to the boy after that, though when Max went to find sed place where the Pokemon's family lived, it seemed that they had already moved. So Max decided to keep the Pokemon as a part of his team. Though, more or less, since it was still young, he sent it to Elm's to be watched over until it was old enough to travel. The next Pokemon was an Eevee. Max received this Pokemon much easier, though, as he got it as an egg from a Day Care couple. It hatched not too long after. It evolved soon after that while Max and team were camping in some woods.
After training for the longest of time with his team, the Indigo Plateau was finally open for trainers to journey into. Max sent his Leafeon to Elm, and settled for the small Chimchar to start battling with him, since the small Pokemon was helped in learning how to fight with the Pokemon that were at the lab. Max entered his team of six in the compition, with his parents and Elm watching in the stands. Max actually did a marvelous job, none the less. With the few close calls here and there, and his Chimchar evolving as well, Max actually made it to the grand finals, where he was pronounced Champion. That was his dream, none the less, and he was overly surprised at how he actually achieved his goal. He was awarded the cup on the rises, with his Pokemon out of their Poke'balls to get the applause as well.
Max spent a while at home after that, letting his Pokemon rest - except for Dusk, who still loved playing pranks and getting into stuff now that his mood calmed down about humans - as well as him self. After about a month, his father received word about a new region - the Gamos Region, was it? With a smile on his face, Max accepted his own invitation to go there, and, leaving most of his old team behind to let them rest after their year long journies, made his slow journey to the next region, finding new Pokemon to add to his team along the way. One of his up most goals is to find the legendary Ho-Oh, as he encountered it and saved it from destruction from Team Rocket, and does in fact want to meet it once more.....Leave Out All The Rest

NAME: Duskull.
GENDER: Male.
LEVEL: Five.
MOVES:
- Leer.
- Nightshade.
INFO/PERSONALITY: Hatched from an Egg that was found by Elm, who decided none the less to give it to Max because his Dusknoir had found it. If Duskull were related to Dusk in any way, he would have gotten the trait for being most annoying and also for trying to be funny as well. Duskull is pretty entertaining to say the least, and enjoys nothing but having fun and trying to spook others on a daily basis to try to get people to enjoy them selves. He gets scolded a lot for it, though, since he sometimes gives people heart attacks. He can be very shy, though, and easily frightened when it comes towards others who are larger than him, or act aggressive towards him. He's not a coward at all; he's just easily scared.....I Ain't The Sharpest Tool In The Shed.
